About The Host - Vin Dawes
Vin Dawes comes from a farming background, having spent the first 50 years of his life growing up in regional W.A on a farming property at Narrogin. During this period upon leaving school and getting married in 1970, Vin and his wife Judi firstly leased then bought their own farm, then leased the family farm as well whilst developing an interest in radio. This interest became a passion and Vin took up football broadcasting once his own sporting career had ended and over the past 30 odd years has regularly called football in many areas on W.A. In 2000 Vin and his wife Judi sold their farming business to continue that passion in radio and 6 months later Rural Focus commenced across the Radio West wheatbelt stations, growing quickly to now cover basically the entire SW land division of the state. Whilst hosting Rural Focus Vin continued with his sports calling and also quickly rose to be the Wheatbelt General Manager, a position he held for 8 years before he took up an opportunity to re locate to Busselton with his wife and commence as General Manager there as well as continue hosting the ever growing Rural Focus program, recording approximately 1,500 interviews every year for the program since its inception.
Vin Dawes has been widely acknowledge by the community and industry alike with 2 sporting association life memberships and 2 Commercial Radio of Australia Awards for excellence plus numerous other industry awards.
